May 26, 2006
Korea's SK Telecom launched the world's first commercial mobile phone HSDPA service in mid-May. SKT is offering its customers the Samsung W200, which supports HSDPA and is equipped with a 2MP camera phone module and an S-DMB receiver, for this service. The network initially only covers 25 cities in Korea, including Seoul, Incheon, and Busan, but SK Telecom plans to increase coverage to 84 cities by the end of 2006. KTF also plans to begin a commercial HSDPA service in Korea by mid-June.
