Samsung Develops Single-Chip 7-Inch LCD Panel
May 05, 2006
Samsung has developed a 7-inch, single-chip a-Si TFT LCD (Amorphous Silicon Thin Film Transistor Liquid Crystal Displays) panel for DMB (Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) devices, portable multimedia players, and car navigation systems. Unlike traditional 7-inch panels which use four to seven driver ICs, Samsung integrated the time controller function in the driver IC, which is then embedded in the glass substrate, thereby considerably reducing the panel size. The new panel, which uses Samsung's ASG (Amorphous Silicon Gate) technology, features a WVGA (Wide Video Graphics Array) level resolution, a 400:1 contrast ratio, and a brightness of 450 nits.
