According to a recent report in the Economic Daily News, Taiwanese Wellypower, a manufacturer of CCFL (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp), is set to increase its production capacity at its plants in Taiwan and Suzhou, China, from the current ten million units per month to 18 million units by the end of 2006. The move is to meet mounting demand for CCFL, which is currently in short supply. Furthermore, Wellypower is a major supplier to panel maker AUO, which recently acquired Quanta Display. The two panel makers have already started a joint procurement program, and are expected to rely on Wellypower for a significant part of their CCFL needs.
