Mitsubishi Develops High-Definition Color Laser TVs
April 07, 2006
Japanese Mitsubishi has overcome two longstanding problems of power consumption and production costs for color laser TVs while achieving better color quality on large, thin, and lightweight screens. Unlike current TVs, Mitsubishi uses semiconductors to control lasers, which function as the light source, enabling them to turn on and off according to necessity, thereby reducing power consumption by two thirds compared to that of existing TV models. With the technological improvement, a large-screen color laser TV is likely to be priced at around the same level as 52-inch and larger plasma display panel TVs. The color laser TVs are expected to go on sale in the second half of 2007.
