Japanese Pioneer has decided to sell its 99.5% stake in Pioneer Precision Machinery, a company producing backlights for handset LCD panels, to Omron. After the acquisition, Omron is expected to have a significant share in the small-sized backlight market for four-inch and smaller LCDs, and increase its share in the market of backlights for LCDs sized between four and eleven inches. Financial details of the deal were not yet disclosed.
