In response to the capacity expansion plan of its client Matsushita, Japanese NEG (Nippon Electric Glass) has announced that it will spend 20 billion Yen on boosting substrate capacity for plasma display panels by August 2006. Half of the investment will be used to add a new line at its Shiga plant in Japan, while the other half will be used to improve existing manufacturing facilities. NEG expects the increased capacity to be sufficient for 1.6 million 42-inch panels.
