Sunplus Obtains Philips' ODD Technology

Philips has agreed to transfer ODD (Optical Disk Drive) technology to Sunext, a subsidiary of Taiwanese Sunplus. According to the agreement, Sunext will be able to design, manufacture, and sell Philips' ICs and solutions for PC ODDs and DVD recorders. Furthermore, Sunext will be able to sell products using Philips ODD technology under its own brand name. Philips will obtain a minority stake in Sunext as part of the deal.
