Samsung Develops GDDR4 Memory Chip with 12.8GB/s Bandwidth
February 16, 2006
Samsung claimed they have developed the fastest 512MB GDDR4 (Graphics Double Data Rate 4) memory chip with a transmission rate of 12.8GB per second, equaling to processing six DVD (Digital Video Disc) movies in one second, with mass production scheduled for March. Compared with the existing models, the speed of the 80nm memory chip is improved by 30%. Samsung, which owns 50% of the GDDR memory chip market, expects to gain 80% of the GDDR4 market with the rollout.
