LG.Philips on January 25 held a ceremony to mark the start-up of its new Application Business Division, which will focus on small- and medium-sized TFT-LCD panels. The company already entered this product segment back in 2003, when its annual production capacity amounted to five million units, and has enjoyed considerable growth since then, with monthly production capacity in the second half of 2005 reaching five million units. Despite its growth in this segment, the company feels it can achieve even better results by concentrating its small- and medium-sized operations in the new unit, which will engage in R&D, planning, production, and customer support.
