Taiwanese FPDC Exits PDP Market
January 25, 2006
Taiwanese FPDC (Formosa Plasma Display Corp.) recently announced that the company will exit the PDP industry and thereafter be dissolved. The company was set up in 2002 by Taiwanese FPG (Formosa Plastic Group) and Fujitsu Hitachi Plasma Display with these two holding a 77.5% and 22.5% stake respectively. Its first plant in Taiwan was to have an annual production capacity of 120,000 units, but the company never made it to this number, as it was unable to compete with Korean and Japanese makers, which have a superior supply chain and a better grasp of the technologies involved.
