Matsushita recently announced that it plans to invest 180 billion Yen to build its fifth PDP production facility in Amagasaki, Japan. Construction is expected to start in the summer of 2006, while actual production will begin in 2007. Initial capacity of the facility will be 200,000 panels per month, which will be increased to 500,000 units in 2008 or 2009. The company already has a PDP plant in Amagasaki, while two of the three other facilities are located in Ibaraki, Japan. The only overseas plant is in Shanghai, China. With the new factory, Matsushita expects that its total annual PDP output will exceed ten million units once the new plant will enter mass production.
