December 15, 2005
Quanta has been selected by MIT to manufacture five to 15 million US$100 laptops for students in poor countries. The laptops use a Linux operating system and a built-in, hand-cranked device to generate power. Quanta will start manufacturing in the first quarter of 2006 and deliver them to China, Brazil, India, Argentina, Egypt, Nigeria, and Thailand, with each country being given one million units.
