AUO Said to Spin Off Three 3.5G Plants
November 25, 2005
According to a report in the Commercial Times, AUO is planning to spin off its three 3.5G plants by early 2006, with the new entity aiming operations at the medium- and small-sized panel market. With a combined monthly capacity of 135,000 substrates, the three lines can produce not only traditional a-Si TFT LCDs (Amorphous Silicon Thin Film Transistor Liquid Crystal Display), but also LTPS (Low Temperature Poly-Silicon) TFT LCDs and AM OLED (Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode) displays. As the depreciation period of the three lines is coming to an end, which will considerably cut down production costs, and as the new company is expected to acquire other medium- and small sized plants, the spin-off is expected to have good prospects in the panel industry. However, AUO has denied the report by affirming the synergy of its large-sized and its medium- and small-sized segments.
