Shanghai SVA NEC to Expand LCD Panel Capacity

According to a report by Bloomberg, Shanghai SVA NEC, a joint venture between NEC and Chinese SVA, is planning to expand monthly production capacity at its fifth-generation TFT LCD line to 85,000 units by the end of 2006, an increase of 63% in comparison with the current 52,000 units. 35.8 billion Yen has been set aside for this capacity increase, which the joint venture will also use to move into production of LCD TV panels, and it has already started shipping a 26-inch sample product for this segment.
