India's HCL Teams with AMD on Low-Cost PC; Capacity Increase Planned

According to recent announcements by HCL and AMD, the companies have teamed up to develop a value-line PC for the Indian market, which has a 1.6 GHz processor, a 15-inch monitor and a 40GB hard disc drive. Equipped with a Linux operating system, the computer will sell for 9,990 Rs. HCL also plans a model with Microsoft's Windows XP Starter Edition, which will have a price of 11,240 Rs.

 

In separate news, HCL has plans to significantly increase its PC manufacturing capacity. It aims to reach a capacity of one million units by March 2006, up from the current 600,000 units.
