Xinjiang Growth Market for Telecommunications

Xinjiang Province in China is becoming a growth market for telecommunications equipment and services. According to Xinhua News Agency, the region had built 35,000 kilometers of optical fiber cables and started operations on ten satellite ground receiving stations by the end of 2004. Furthermore, an internet data control center has been established, while ground microwave and underground cable projects have also been completed.

 

At the end of 2004 the province in the Western part of China had 5.2 million fixed telephone subscribers and 4.9 million mobile phone subscribers. In 2005, 150 million RMB will be spent to build more telecommunications facilities in rural areas.
