Mitsubishi Electric to End Production of PC LCDs in 2008
September 21, 2005
Mitsubishi Electric announced on September 20 that it will quit production of LCD panels for PCs by 2008, instead choosing to focus on small-sized panels, with particular emphasis on industrial equipment applications. Currently, the company mainly produces 15-inch LCD panels for use in its own PCs with a smaller part of production going to retailers and other companies. In the fiscal year 2004 LCD panels for PCs accounted for approximately 15% of its total LCD panel sales, and this figure is expected to drop to 10% in the first half of the fiscal year 2005. Other companies, such as Hitachi and Toshiba, are also scaling back production of LCD panels for PCs.
