ERSO Develops Composite LCD Panel Technology for Flexible Panels
September 02, 2005
ERSO (Electronics Research & Service Organization) of ITRI (Industrial Technology Research Institute) has developed a composite LCD technology that combines glass and plastic substrates. Designed for flexible panels, this technology initially targets at manufacturing medium- and small-sized panels such as 2" handset panels and 7" telematics panels. Because there is no need to polish glass, this technology can produce light, skinny, and shock-proof panels while enhancing production efficiency. The first prototype developed by ERSO is a 4" QVGA (Quarter Video Graphics Array) display with 100ppi resolution, measuring 0.9cm thick. ERSO is working toward 0.6cm panels, which will be 36% lighter and 35% thinner than the prototype.
