CPT to Push 20.1
August 31, 2005
In view of the skinny profits of 32" LCD TV panels, CPT (Chunghwa Picture Tubes) plans to dedicate a larger share of production to 20.1" panels. At this moment, only AUO (AU Optronics) is expected to profit from 32" LCD TV panels by the end of 2005. Since cutting the glass substrates into eighteen 20.1" LCD TV panels brings much more aggregate profit than six 37" ones, CPT plans to concentrate on producing 20.1" LCD TV panels from September. Currently, two-thirds of CPT's 6G production line is engaged in TV panel production with 17" display panel production taking up the remainder. According to CPT, they still aim to produce 32" LCD TV panels, but 20.1" and 37" ones will be their next focus. In addition to 32" LCD TV panels, 20.1" LCD TV panels will become CPT's main volume driver in 2006.
