SIS to Produce Chipsets for Intel's Pentium M Processors
August 26, 2005

SIS and Intel have reached an agreement, in which SIS will provide a series of chipsets with 533MHz FSB (Front-side Bus) for Pentium M processors, including SiS656MX, SiS649MX, SiSM662MX, and SiSM670MX chipsets, all supporting dual-core CPUs. This agreement enables SIS to compete with the Intel's current chipset partners Nvidia, ATI, and VIA, in both entry-level and mainstream notebook PC chipset markets. Intel keeps a firm hold over its mobile processors by bundling its Pentium M processor, chipset and Wi-Fi module in the name of Centrino; therefore, it takes a great deal of effort for other chipset makers and Wi-Fi chip makers to get into the Centrino market.
