First Commercial Perpendicular Hard Drive Enters the Market
August 24, 2005
Toshiba commercially released a hard drive with perpendicular recording platters, which greatly increases the data capacity of a drive. This 1.8" hard drive provides 40GB on one single platter, which is the largest among other 1.8" drives. All major hard drive makers have announced plans for perpendicular drives all well. Seagate, which revealed a line of perpendicular drives in June 2005, will begin to ship later in the summer. Hitachi also plans to roll out perpendicular drives in 2005 and a denser version in 2007.
