Flexible Electronics Set as Taiwan's Next Star Industry

Executive Yuan will invest NT$100 million to support research and development on flexible electronics. This project aims at the development of printed smart tag and flexible display. R&D work on A4-sized displays and printed smart tag is expected to finish in 2008.
Flexible electronics technology is still at the start-up stage and Taiwan's edge lies in the foundation established by the "two trillion industries" -- semiconductor industry and flat-panel display industry. Through these two industries, the technology in such areas as flat-panel display, electronics, flexible packaging, and materials can be integrated and turned into a commercialized technology that can then be used to create convenient full-color display and printed smart tag.
