JVC to Start Mass Production on High-Res TV Components
August 12, 2005
JVC, also known as Victor, has developed key components for rear-projection televisions which enable HD broadcasting to be seen at the highest resolution currently available. The company plans to put these components into mass production at the end of August in its Yokosuka plant in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, a four billion Yen facility recently completed. The components will be used in 50- to 70-inch rear-projection televisions which it will introduce in Japan and the United States in September. Prices for these televisions will range from US$6,000 to US$9,500.

The high resolution is achieved by using a 0.7-inch substrate, smaller than substrates used by other makers. The substrate enables the television display to have 2.07 million pixels, while currently available HD television models have 920,000 pixels.
