Corning to Start Mass Production of 8G Glass Substrates in Fall '06

Corning has started construction in Japan on a production plant for 8G LCD glass substrates, which are slated to enter into mass production in the fall of 2006. Corning, which has a share of about 50% of the worldwide substrate market, will supply the new glass substrates mainly to Sharp. AFT and NEG, two other main players in this market, are making preparations to start mass production of 8G glass substrates as well.
