Microsoft's Windows XP Starter Edition Reaches 100,000 in Sales

According to information provided by Microsoft at the end of July, the company has so far sold 100,000 copies of its Windows XP Starter Edition, which is a low-cost, basic version of Windows. Microsoft started selling Starter Edition in Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia in the fall of 2004, but in recent months it has expanded sales into India, Brazil, Mexico, and other Spanish-speaking countries. The Starter Edition is paired with low-cost desktop PCs of Microsoft's OEM partners in the different countries. Microsoft also plans to team up with local telecommunication companies to increase Internet access in emerging markets by offering an aforementioned low-cost PC desktop together with a broadband connection for US$13-15 a month.
