Dell Plans to Open Second Factory in China in 1Q 2006

According to an announcement by Dell, the company plans to open its second factory in China in the first quarter of 2006. It will be located in the southern coastal city of Xiamen next to its original plant, which opened in 1998. When the new factory will have started production, Dell estimates it will be able to double its output in China, with the country expected to account for 8% to 10% of the company's worldwide production. China also is a large provider of components for Dell's PC production, as the company procured US$12 billion worth of components in the country in 2004.
