BenQ, PENTAX in Tech Tie-up to Develop DSC Market
July 22, 2005
BenQ and PENTAX announced that they will support each other technologically for more aggressive developments into the DSC (Digital Still Camera) market. PENTAX will provide BenQ with DSC lenses as well as take part in the system and mechanical designs. As of now, the pair has successfully kicked off the mass production for two 5MP (Mega Pixel) models which they introduced during the announcement. Both of these models adopt panels from AUO, but DSCs to be marketed near the end of the year will include OLED models. The second half of 2005 will also see the rollout of a collaboratively developed slim model.

Officials at BenQ state that from now on, the company will be launching two new models each quarter. Target DSC sales for 2005 is set at 800,000 units, a 60% boost from what was registered in 2004. The Taiwanese company will initially focus on branded shipments, but will consider stepping into the contract manufacturing business in the long-term.
