Taiwanese Gov't Repeals Preferential Tax Rate for Notebook PC Industry
July 15, 2005
Under pressure from the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Economic Affairs has repealed the preferential tax rate for 170 items, including notebook PCs. Officials from the Ministry of Economic Affairs explain that items removed from the list consist of those capable of development and growth on their own, or those holding substantial global market share.

Tax incentives will continue to be valid for 258 items, such as workstations with two CPUs and up. Another 32 items have been included to the preferential list, among which are the aluminum-substrate hard disks 100GB and larger as well as servers with two CPUs and above.
