Hitachi to Introduce Brightest Plasma TV in August
July 15, 2005
Hitachi announced on Monday July 11 that in August it plans to introduce new plasma televisions, which will be the world's brightest with 1,400 candelas per square meter. The televisions will use 30% less power than previous models and will be grouped in the so-called Wooo 8000 series, which will include 37-, 42- and 55-inch screen sizes. Furthermore, some of these new televisions will have built-in digital Hi-Vision tuners and there will also be two hard disk-equipped models which offer the possibility of recording two programs simultaneously. In the fiscal year 2005 Hitachi originally planned for a 90% annual increase in plasma television shipments to 590,000 units, but is has increased this number to 700,000, as Hitachi tries to catch up with market leader Matsushita.
