Korean Public, Private Sectors Team up on Mobile RFID
July 15, 2005
The Korean Ministry of Information and Communication plans to launch a demonstrative service, called the Mobile RFID, in 2006. In preparation for the service, the Ministry of Information and Communication, the ETRI (Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute), Samsung Electronics, and MagnaChip will collaborate to develop a system on chip that can be built into a RFID reader phone. ETRI and Samsung will be responsible for the actual development of the RFID reader chip, which will be designed to match the Korean RFID frequency standard of 908.5MHz to 914MHz. Mobile RFID will allow users to track merchandise, pay for purchases, and locate objects.
