Samsung to Start Mass Production on New Lithium Battery

In July 2005 Samsung SDI will start mass production on 2600mAh cylinder-shaped lithium batteries at its Cheonan plant in Korea. Initial monthly production is set at 10,000 units, but the company plans to increase this number to 90,000 by the end of 2005. This battery will have a diameter of 18mm and a length of 65mm, and it will mainly be used in notebook computers and video cameras. Comparing it with the 2400mAh lithium battery that Samsung SDI is currently selling, it has approximately 8.3% more capacity. Major notebook makers such as Dell and Samsung are currently testing the new battery,s.
