Thomson Sells Bulk of Remaining CRT Business to Videocon

Thomson has signed a definite agreement with Indian group Videocon to sell its two CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) plants in China, as well as one each in Mexico and Poland, for a total of 240 million Euros in cash payment. In return, Thomson will respectively invest 225 million Euros and 15 million Euros into Videocon Industries and Videocon International for a 14% stake in each company. The deal will bring Videocon a monthly capacity of 19 million CRTs and four million units of CRT glass, as well as a workforce of 11,000. In addition to this, Thomson transferred its Indian CRT factory to Videocon in February 2005. Having inked this deal, Thomson completes its transformation from a consumer electronics group into a supplier of services and technologies for the media and entertainment industry.
