Taiwan to Impose CO2 Restrictions
June 24, 2005
The Taiwanese government announced its decision to restrict domestic CO2 emission, after reaching a consensus at the General Energy Conference in June 2005. The requirement is expected to impact the glass substrate investment plans that Asahi, domestic makers, and Corning Taiwan currently hold in Taiwan. Future large-scale investments and existing high-energy consuming industries in the country will henceforth be subject to CO2 emission inspection. New regulations will be formulated to ensure that new investment plans propose short, mid, and long-term goals to lower CO2 emission. The CO2 level per output unit of major investments and high-energy consuming industries will be subject the highest international standard currently in use, while energy efficiency during the production process will also be closely monitored.
