LCD TV Shipments to Japan Exceed that of CRT TVs for the First Time

According to JEITA (Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association), in May 2005, LCD TV shipments in Japan surpassed that of CRT TVs for the first time. LCD TV and CRT TV shipment volume respectively registered 74.9% and 32.4% growth year-on-year, to respectively 291,000 units and 240,000 units in May 2005. Officials at JEITA stated that although CRT TV shipments may again exceed that of LCD TVs in the next few months, LCD TV shipment volume is expected to win out for good starting in autumn of 2005. Accumulated shipments of LCD TVs from January to May 2005 reached over 1.4 million units, while approximately 1.9 million units of CRT TVs were shipped for the Japanese market during the same period.
