Kyocera to Mass Produce Small OLED Panels in 2006
June 23, 2005
Kyocera has announced plans to begin mass producing small OLED panels in 2006, and intends to start shipping branded mobile phones using such panels that summer. The company is said to be establishing an OLED panel production line in Shiga Prefecture, with pilot run for the line slated to happen in fall of 2005. Panels mass-produced on the line are expected to have a 30,000 hour life-time. These panels will initially be used solely on Kyocera's mobile phones, but plans are to also sell them to DSC makers in the future. Shipments of Kyocera handsets adopting the OLED panels are projected to reach 200,000 units in the first year.
