According to information provided by the Korea Display Equipment Material Industry Association and companies involved, Korean LCD makers such as Samsung and LG.Philips will be using more locally made LCD equipment. It is forecasted that in 2005 the rate of Korean made LCD equipment used by Korean LCD makers will grow to 20%~40%. Of the four main equipment used for LCD panel production -- stepper, CVD (Chemical Vapor Deposition) equipment, dry etcher and coating equipment -- only steppers will continue to be completely supplied by Japanese and US companies due to the higher entry barriers. However, Samsung and LG.Philips have already confirmed that they will start using Korean made coating equipment.
