June 17, 2005
The Japanese company Anyuser Global announced that it will introduce the world's smallest VoIP phone in August 2005, dubbed ImPhone. The phone is basically a USB memory stick with integrated VoIP circuits and software. The consumer needs to plug the stick into a USB 1.1/2.0 port of a personal computer, after which the phone's software is automatically activated. The computer will show a phone diagram to assist the user in making a call. The Imphone stick can also be used as a storage medium and will be available in 64MB, 128MB and 256MB configurations. The initial price will be set at 3,970 Yen (US$36; US$1=108.9 Yen).
