Display - Korean Monitor Shipment Volume Taking a Hit

According to Displaybank, total monitor shipment volume of Korea's top ten vendors was down in the first quarter of 2005. Shipment volume amounted to 11.16 million units in the first quarter of 2005, meaning a year-on-year decrease of 11% from the 12.5 million units in the first quarter of 2004. CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) monitor shipment volume was hit especially hard, mainly because of fierce competition from Taiwanese makers. Shipment volume of CRT monitors fell to of 5.57 million units in the first quarter of 2005, down from 8.3 million units in the same quarter of 2004. LCD monitor shipment volume managed to escape the general trend. Volume amounted to of 5.6 million units, up from 4.2 million units in the same quarter of 2004. Worldwide monitor shipment volume experienced year-on-year growth of 15% in the first quarter of 2005, totaling to 32.9 million units in comparison with 28.6 million units in the first quarter of 2004. The global shipment share of Korean makers was 34%, down from 44%.
