Computing - Intel Stepping Up Operations in China
June 17, 2005
On Monday, June 13 Intel announced that it has established a US$200 million venture capital fund to invest in Chinese technology companies. The fund will be called The Intel Capital China Technology Fund, and will invest in upstart companies which make use of Intel's products. Special focus areas will be cellular communications, broadband applications and chip design. Currently, Intel has already invested in 50 companies in China and Hong Kong.

Furthermore, Intel announced that it will set up the global headquarters of its channel product group in China. As China has become one of the most important computer manufacturing bases, Intel thinks moving the global headquarters of the channel product group will enable it to more effectively meet the demands of computer makers. Intel did not announce in which city the headquarters will be located nor did it say when the move will happen.
