Display - Sharp to Introduce Largest LCD TV in August

Sharp announced that it will launch a 65-inch LCD television on August 1 in Japan, making it the world's largest LCD television. Currently, the largest size for a LCD television is 45-inches. Production will begin at a rate of 300 units per month. Sharp will set the starting retail price at 1.68 million Yen (US$15,378; US$1=109.29 Yen). The retail price for a Matsushita 65-inch plasma television at the moment stands at 1.8 million Yen (US$16,475). Sharp will introduce its new television in international markets at the end of the year, where it expects to sell between 1,000 and 2,000 units per month.
