Display - CPT, CMO Pushing Up LCD Monitor, TV Panel Prices
June 10, 2005
Seeing demand in persisting growth, Taiwanese LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) panel makers CPT (China Picture Tube) and CMO (Chi Mei Optoelectronics) have decided to further revise up panel prices. CPT will up the price of its 17" and 15"LCD monitor panels respectively by US$3 - US$5 and US$12 to a respective quotation of around US$170 and US$135 - US$140. CMO has informed customers of the US$5 to US$10 price increase on its 32" LCD TV panels.
Yield rates on CPT's 4.5 generation LCD panel line (L1B) have been exceptionally high. May saw the line take in over 50,000 substrates, while June is eyeing more than 70,000 substrate inputs. CPT's 4.5 generation CF (Color Filter) line was also able to process 10,000 substrates in May, with hope of reaching its full capacity of 20,000 units in June 2005, significantly compressing CPT's production costs.
Although Hannstar revealed intensions to end 15" LCD monitor panel production in the first quarter of 2006, CPT said it will carry on. However, plans are to lower its monthly output of 15" monitor panels from the current 200,000 units to the 100,000 unit -150,000 unit level.
