Display - TMDC Wins Awards for Newly Developed Optical Engine
June 09, 2005
TMDC (Taiwan Micro Display Corporation) has successfully developed an optical engine for LCoS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon) RPTVs (Rear Projection TVs) that is suitable for mass production. This innovation is expected to significantly ramp up the yield rates of LCoS panels. Having already received orders from TV makers including TTE, Chanhong, SVA, CEC, and Amoisonic, the maker estimates shipments of such optical engines to come to 10,000 units in the second half of 2005, with a projection of over 100,000 units in 2006. TMDC displayed three 61" LCoS RPTVs at an optoelectronics exhibition in early June. China and North America will be the maker's first targets in its global TV deployment scheme.
