Mobile Communications - Indian Mobile Connections Outpace Fixed-line Numbers
November 11, 2004
India's mobile subscriber base outnumbered fixed-line connections in October 2004, according to a recent report by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India. Compared with the current 43.9 million land-line subscribers, approximately 44.9 million mobile connections are active in India.

The substantial expansion in the India mobile phone market bears a resemblance of China's growth track. India has become the second largest market, and major vendors, including Sony Ericsson, Nokia, Siemens, LG, and Philips are aggressively entering to tap into the growing demand.
