Mobile Communications - NTT DoCoMo, Matsui Team up for i-Mode Abroad
November 10, 2004
Japan's NTT DoCoMo has forged cooperation with Mitsui in providing foreign companies with i-mode technology. Through the partnership, NTT DoCoMo will be able to leverage Matsui's sales networks abroad and focus on technology transfers, now a core business in its overseas operations. Matsui, on the other hand, will be able to strengthen its position in telecommunications business.

The two Japanese companies will first provide i-mode technology to Telstra, the largest telecommunications operator in Australia. The operator is expected launch i-mode for 2G handsets in November 2004, and a similar service for 3G handsets in 2005. NTT DoCoMo and Matsui are looking to enter markets in New Zealand and Eastern Europe in the future.
