Data Communications - Cameo Acquires Global Sun
November 01, 2004
Cameo announced the acquisition of Global Sun, which is tentatively scheduled to become effective April 1st, 2005. The merger promises to fill out Cameo's WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) product line. Cameo has primarily focused on wired devices, with WLAN comprising only 12% product mix. The acquisition is expected to bring this share up to roughly half.

D-Link, which is cross-invested in Cameo and is a major customer of Global Sun, is said to have been an aggressive proponent of the merger. The buyout will total NT$342 million (US$10.2 million; US$1 = 33.4) and the merged company will have total capital of approximately NT$1.3 billion (US$37.9 million).
