Andes, Excelmax to Join Hands for RISC-V CPU IP Market in India
May 22, 2022

Taiwan's Andes Technology recently announced that the company has cooperated with India's Excelmax Technologies to jointly tap the growing demand in the RISC-V (Reduced Instruction Set Computer-Five) CPU (Central Processing Unit) IP (Intellectual Property) licensing market, the Economic Daily reported on May 20. The rapid growth of SoC (System on Chip) design companies in India has boosted the growth in demand for RISC-V processors, which boast to improve the performance of devices while reducing power consumption and cost. RISC-V CPU IP has been adopted in a variety of applications such as 5G, AI (Artificial Intelligence), IoT (Internet of Things), MCU (Microcontroller Unit), networking, storage, and wearables. Apart from large economies like the US, Europe and Japan, India is also hoping to develop their own semiconductor industries due to concerns over the resilience of associated supply chains. The Indian government recently also unveiled a US$10 billion incentive plan to lure overseas display and semiconductor companies to set up bases in India.
Global semiconductor market is estimated to grow 10.1% year-on-year in 2022, reaching US$606.5 billion, according to MIC, one of leading IT research institutes in Taiwan and a division of III (Institute for Information Industry). Meanwhile, it is expected the Taiwanese semiconductor industry will continue to perform better than the global average in 2022.
