BOE Aims to Boost OLED Panel Production Capacity by 70% This Year

Chinese BOE aims to boost OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) production capacity by 70% with its OLED output increasing from 60 million in 2021 to 100 million in 2022, according to Nikkei Asia. To achieve this goal, the company currently has two production lines in Chengdu and Mianyang, in Sichuan Province, China, which are reportedly to operate at full capacity by the end of the current fiscal year. In addition, the company recently announced that it plans to set up a new Gen 8 OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) production line to produce panel substrates for IT devices by the end of 2024, the Commercial Daily reported on April 16. The production line is to be located at the company’s existing premises in the city of Chengdu, with an anticipated capacity of 15,000 substrates per month. On top of that, the company also plans to set up a third line in the city of Chongqing, Sichuan Province.
Furthermore, the company is reportedly to provide at least 50 million 6.1-inch panels for iPhone 14 in 2022, which will account for 25% of the company’s total panel shipments, according to the Commercial Daily News on April 16. Meanwhile, Apple is estimated to ship 238.3 million iPhones in 2022, up 3.3% year-on-year, according to MIC (Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute), one of the leading IT research institutes in Taiwan and a division of the III (Institute for Information Institute), a major government think tank in Taiwan.
