Taiwan to Establish New National Quantum Computing Research Team for US$285 Million

The BOST (Board of Science and Technology) of Taiwan’s Executive Yuan recently announced that it will invest NT$8 billion (US$285 million; US$1=NT$28.1) over the next five year to build a national quantum computing research team to tap the growing demand for quantum computing from the cybersecurity, financial and national defense industries, the Economic Daily News reported on March 17. This national-grade research team reportedly will assemble 17 research groups, comprising of 72 experts and 24 enterprises dedicated to research and development of quantum elements, quantum computers, and quantum communications technologies.
In addition to the BOST, the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), Academia Sinica, and the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) have also joined the team while the Financial Supervisory Commission and the National Development Council are expected to join later.
