China to Build Over 600,000 New 5G Base Stations This Year

China’s MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology) recently announced that the country aims to build an addition of 600,000 5G base stations in 2022 alone, up 42% from 1.42 million base stations in 2021, the Sina News reported on March 1. To date, China’s 5G network coverage has included all China’s cities and 87% of rural areas. Furthermore, China had 520 million 5G connected devices at the end of 2021, up from 200 million devices at the end of 2020. Meanwhile, the country is also developing new 5G services for the manufacturing, medical, and educational sectors, with significant improvements in speed, latency, and connectivity.
Global 5G subscriber base is forecast to reach 3.5 billion by 2026, up from 200 million units in 2020, according to MIC (Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute), a major government think tank and one of the leading research institutes in Taiwan. The CAGR (Compound Annual Growth Rate) is estimated at 50.51% during the period 2020-2026.
