Taiwan-based Foxconn is to earmark US$700 million to invest in Vietnam during 2021, the Economic Daily News reported on March 11. One of the investment projects by Foxconn is a US$270 million factory in Bac Giang in northern Vietnam through its subsidiary Fukang Technology, according to Viet Nam News. The new factory already received the license from the provincial government, is projected to produce eight million computers every year, including iPads and MacBooks. As of the end of 2020, the company has already invested a total of US$1.5 billion in Vietnam. Shipment volume of the global notebook PC industry is projected to reach 215.7 million units in 2021, up from 200 million units in 2020, according to MIC (Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute), a major government think tank and IT research institute in Taiwan.
